Prawn Konchu Masala Recipe

Prawn Konchu Masala is a vibrant coastal dish from Kerala, known for its bright colour, rich aroma and lightly spiced gravy. Using our Prawn Konchu Masala Spice Mix, this recipe creates a quick, flavour-packed curry that works beautifully with prawns — and is equally delicious with tuna or monkfish.
Shopping List
- Raw king prawns – 500 g
- Tomatoes – 125 g
- Onions – 250 g, chopped
- Ginger paste – 1 tsp
- Garlic paste – 1 tsp
- Lemon – a few drops
- Prawn Konchu Masala Spice Mix – 2 tbsp
- Oil for cooking
- Salt – to taste
- Fresh coriander leaves – to garnish
Cooking Method

Marinate the prawns
Marinate the raw prawns with pepper powder, salt and a few drops of lemon.
Set aside for 30 minutes. -
Sauté the onions
Heat oil in a pan and sauté the finely chopped onions until soft. -
Add aromatics
Add 1–1.5 tsp garlic paste and 1 tsp ginger paste.
Cook for a minute until the raw smell disappears. -
Add tomatoes and spice mix
Add the chopped tomatoes and 2 tbsp Prawn Konchu Masala Spice Mix.
Sauté for 3–4 minutes until the tomatoes soften. -
Add prawns
Add the marinated prawns and simmer.
Cook for 3–4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the prawns turn pink and tender. -
Adjust consistency
Check the sauce thickness and add ½–1 cup of water as required.
Add a little lemon juice to balance the flavour. -
Finish and serve
Sprinkle generously with chopped coriander leaves.
Serve hot with rice or naan.

- Also works beautifully with tuna or monkfish

- Prawns cook quickly; avoid overcooking
- Add green chillies for extra heat
